I do stupid things sometimes. On this occasion, in 2006, I took off my shoes, rolled up my jeans and stepped gingerly (it was winter) into the water at Torquay. The plan was to try a few long exposure shots. Things were going swimmingly until a low-flying biplane flew overhead, distracting me long enough that I failed to notice an oncoming wave. Suddenly, 'swimmingly' took on new meaning, with water up to my waist. At least the camera stayed dry. I'll never forget the half hour trek home in shrill winds - much as I'd like to.
